Finally, here’s the first site that takes advantage of Papervision 3.
Rudebox is the first single from Robbie Williams’ new dance album, 1974.
It’s based on the same structure as TangaGirls’06. A simple to navigate 3D menu that leads to 2D content that is loaded (and developed) separately.
But this is real 3D. The faces of the room and box objects are formed by 466 triangles in regular tessellation, with a maximum of 338 on screen. As usual, you can check out the triangles by pressing Shift.
On top of that, I’m using distorted MovieClips for the buttons and non distorted ones for the lighting effects. A total of around 100 3D objects. On my machine, I’m getting 5000 polys/sec. A figure close to that of a PS1. The code has been optimised since Panic Room demo, and there’s still room for improvement.
As a bonus, you have the option of playing with the camera from the menu.
Developed at Outside Line, this is my first published work in London. And there’s much more to come.

Papervision is fantastic. I found you through Andre Michelle’s post.
You’ve found a lively way to realistically use 3d in an interface and the performance is good. Keep it imaginative and i’m looking out for v4.

Quite interesting. However it looks a bit slow to me Not saying is your fault. Maybe I was expecting more of flash. How many polys are you rendering in that scene?

The lighting effects make heavy use of alpha. Depending on your graphic card, it might have an impact on your fps.

Hola Carlos,
fantastico trabajo. Papervision tiene muy buena pinta, es posible descargarlo?

What? Graphic card? AFAIK Flash doesn’t have Hardware acceleration, does it?

Flash doesn’t support hardware acceleration directly on its own. But the operating system obviously does.
On the other hand, Papervision is not currently available for download as it’s been used on a number of commercial projects. What will be released is the 3D class behind it, so you potentially could build your own engine.
But at the moment, I’m very busy finishing stuff and changing jobs, so it won’t happen for a while.
