I’m very happy to announce that the next version of Papervision is going to be released as open source.
Papervision is a high performance 3D engine for Flash 8, whose latest version powered Robbie’s Rudebox site and the much popular Room and Box demos.
It’s been heavily optimized since then, and it’s currently being rewritten for clarity and ease of use. It shouldn’t be long before it’s available for beta testing, but don’t hold your breath because I’m also very occupied at Hi-ReS!
I’ll post more details soon, including licence type, list of features and some benchmarks.
In the meantime, here’s a little demo to wet your appetite.

Awesome. That is very very cool. Looking forward to possibly helping out with an AS3 Port.

Very impressive stuff. Any news on a release date? Have something in mind but need to know if I write my own crude version (eek!)… fingers crossed…

This tool needs to have it’s own interface. Whereas you just load your object into it and it creates a SWF file so you could just put the SWF file onto your web site without the needs of Adobe Flash.
